One of the things that children exceptionally enjoy is taking a bath. In the absence of a pool, or the presence of the rain, it is the perfect excuse to play in the tub and immerse themselves in bubbles. Gummy’s fun bath time however does not end in the bathroom. It continues in the bedroom, finished off with massage either using lotion or baby oil.
I particularly love giving Gummy a bath after a long day. Preferably after dinner to give her enough time to digest and before Bible reading and milk time. I don’t like rushing bath time also that’s why I prefer it at night rather than very early in the morning before heading to school.
Children are very kinetic. They literally want to feel love to know that they are loved. And massage is one of the best ways to tangibly express that to them. The skin to skin contact and smooth and slow motions calm their senses and ease them into quiet talk or magic moment before finally dozing off. Not to mention the many other biological benefits of massage such as better blood circulation and relaxation of muscles.
My daughter undeniably loves being pampered. She loves foot massage as much as I do. And I love serving her. I love rubbing her feet. What great joy it brings me when I do something for her; making her feel loved with my touch and by taking time doing things with and for her.
The perfect, safest and tried and tested line of skincare for babies (and adults – since I share the same lotion and oil as Gummy), that has been passed on for generations in our family is none other than Johnson’s Baby. I vividly remember my Lola slathering lotion from a baby pink plastic bottle when I was young. She would emphasize doubling the amount and increasing the circling motions on the joint areas – knees and elbows. And even now that I have my own baby – my Lola’s great grandchild, she never fails to remind me to scrub Gummy’s skin with oil and cotton before the actual bath to get rid of dead skin cells.
This complete line of Johnson’s Baby Bedtime includes baby bath, lotion, powder and oil and has been proven to help babies sleep up to an hour longer! That means an hour more for us too, Mummies! The key of course to successfully soothing our babies before bed is unrushed warm bath, gentle massage and quiet time. As for Gummy and I, we enjoy reading Bible stories or daily devotionals, and discussing the stories while drinking our milk.
